Face reality.
This is more than just about you. Your actions affect her and a new life.
Talk about it.
Be sure to listen to her. Men want to offer solutions. Sometimes women just need you to listen. Be prepared to communicate with her and parents or other involved parties.
Be supportive.
Show her that a real man takes responsibility. She may be pregnant, but BOTH of you are the parents. Your baby needs your support, too, regardless of your relationship in the future.
Get the facts.
Seriously research the facts and don’t accept just the answers you want to hear. This is a situation where your decisions affect at least three lives.
Express your feelings.
You may feel trapped, angry, and afraid. These feelings are normal, and she may be feeling them also. But express your feelings and support each other.
Don’t run.
Delaying or avoiding the situation is no solution, and makes it harder to confront reality.
Work together.
This is a team effort, so make decisions as a team. Pressuring her to do what you want may drive her to make a regrettable decision.
Ultimately it’s her decision.
Although you may not have legal rights in the decision making process, your input is invaluable in making a decision for the future of your child.
Fayette Pregnancy Resource Center is here for you both. Contact us for a free and confidential appointment.
